Five hurt after bouncy castle flies away in the wind
FOUR children and an elderly woman were injured yesterday when a large inflatable blew away and into a crowd of people.
Shoppers at a car boot sale at Ripley Cricket Club, North Yorkshire, watched in horror as the inflatable was carried away by the wind and blown over a number of stalls.
One said: “The wind took it and a few children and an elderly person were injured.”
Katie Lister, 41, said: “We heard screaming and then the bouncy castle just blew into the air.
“It landed on a crowd of people, including children, parents and grandparents. People said there were a couple of broken limbs.”
People were screaming and running away. It was awful.
Carmen Williams said: “I was sat there in the cafe and in a flash the bouncy castle with two or three children on it just flew over.
“People were screaming and running away. It was awful.”
One of the injured is understood to be an elderly woman who was hit on the head by the inflatable.
The land is part of the Ripley Castle estate. A spokesman said: “Our sympathy goes out to all those affected by the incident.”
A Yorkshire Ambulance Service spokeswoman said four people were taken to hospital in Harrogate and one to Leeds General Infirmary.
