Countdown ‘could face the chop’
THE days could be numbered for Countdown as ratings for Channel 4’s teatime show fell to a record low.
The clock is ticking and this signals the beginning of the end
At its peak with Richard Whiteley and Carol Vorderman at the helm, the quiz attracted four million viewers. But one day last week it was watched by just 260,000. There are now concerns that the show, presented by Nick Hewer and Rachel Riley, may be taken off the air.
Countdown was the first show to be aired when Channel 4 was launched in 1982.
A TV source said: “The clock is ticking and this signals the beginning of the end.”
Channel 4 insisted that it had no plans to drop the show.
