Rolf Harris paints to ease anguish
ROLF Harris has been painting to cope with the trauma of being accused of sex abuse, his wife has revealed.
The entertainer was arrested last month under Operation Yewtree, the national investigation prompted by allegations against Jimmy Savile.
Harris’s wife of 55 years, Alwen Hughes, said the allegations stunned his family who are standing by him as they fight for his name to be cleared.
She said Rolf, 83, had been painting “every day” to cope with the devastation of his arrest, and he had vowed to carry on entertaining his fans.
Speaking at the couple’s riverside home in Berkshire, sculptor Ms Hughes continued: “We’re fine. Yes, it’s been quite hard but it’s all right, we’re still laughing. I hope it will be okay.”
Harris, who has denied any wrongdoing, was interviewed under caution last November, five days after a search warrant was executed at his home. Following his arrest he was bailed to a date in May.
