Schoolgirl star brings kids’ heroine to life
A SCHOOLGIRL has been picked to star in the TV adaptation of the best-selling Katie Morag children’s books.
Seven-year-old Cherry Campbell beat hundreds of other hopefuls for the title role in the family adventure, which will start filming in May on the Isle of Lewis.
Producers of the BBC series say the Glasgow-born youngster is the perfect fit to play the ginger-haired heroine from the fictional island of Struay.
I was over the moon when I found out that I had got the part and couldn’t stop jumping around.
Cherry also has connections to Lewis, as her grandmother was born, and still lives, on the island.
Cherry said: “I was over the moon when I found out that I had got the part and couldn’t stop jumping around. I have read all the books and absolutely love the stories.
“I’ve been coming to the Isle of Lewis on holiday for years and I can’t wait to go back there to start filming.”
Director Don Coutts said: “We needed someone with energy, humour and courage to play the feisty wee character and we think that Cherry has all three of these attributes in spades.”
Cherry took part in auditions for the 26-part CBeebies series after being put forward by her parents, David and Jill.
