Britain is still mad for tea
TEA-loving Britons drink almost 11 million gallons – 166 million cups – of the nation’s favourite drink a day.
More than 14 million of us say we can’t function in the morning before we have our first brew.
Almost one in four drink five or more cups a day, with four per cent getting through 10, according to a study by pensioners’ charity WRVS.
Tea-drinkers are creatures of habit, with 40 per cent always using the same mug. Fans have no time for a weak cuppa, with more than a third preferring a “mid dark-brown” brew.
The Scots make the sweetest tea, with 41 per cent adding sugar.
The research is part of the WRVS Great Brew Break, which will see tea-related events held around the country next week.
This Morning presenter and ambassador Phillip Schofield said: “We all know the power of the perfect cuppa, whether it’s having a gossip or to share some comfort when there’s bad news.”
