Criminal duo who stole 35 cars framed themselves with mobile phone photos
TWO bungling criminals who stole 35 cars worth more than £500,000 in a 40-day spree were caught – after police found photos of them posing in the motors on their mobiles.
Sam Holmes and David Leadbeater burgled homes in Kent, London, Hampshire and Surrey and grabbed keys to the vehicles before stealing them from driveways and selling them to contacts.
Maidstone Crown Court heard how Leadbeater, 23, and Holmes, 22, burgled 43 homes between May 25 and July 4 last year.
The pair, of Eltham, south London, were caught when police swooped and seized their mobile phones, which had several photos of them sitting in cars they had stolen.
Police said the pair were “incompetent” and “slipped up in every way possible”.
They admitted conspiracy to commit 43 burglaries and attempted burglaries and will be sentenced later this week.
