Chechen ‘threat to Britain’
HUNDREDS of innocent people have lost their lives to Chechen terrorists.
The rebels have plagued their Russian masters with murders, bombings and beheadings. But the Boston marathon carnage raises the threat of more overseas attacks, with everywhere – including Britain – a potential target.
Intelligence experts believe America and its allies would be targets because of Afghanistan and Iraq. Evidence suggests Chechens have fought against Britain and the US in Helmand province.
The conflict began 20 years ago when Moscow held on to Muslim-dominated Chechnya after the Soviet Union’s break-up. In 2002, 129 hostages died when Chechen fighters took over Moscow’s Dubrovka Theatre. Two years later 300 died – mostly children – when the rebels seized a school in Beslan.
One security source said: “Americans will be asking why the Chechens are suddenly targeting them. But they have been helping to kill US and British troops in Afghanistan for a decade.”
