Thousands of children have never seen a wild bee
THOUSANDS of children have never seen a wild bee, a survey shows.
Bee numbers have been falling for decades and a fifth of under-10s have never seen one.
Causes of decline may include disease, weather, parasites or pesticides.
Many are calling for a ban on pesticides linked to bee decline but the Government says it needs more evidence.
The poll of 2,000 parents by Disney’s The Hive toys and bee charity Adopt-a-Hive showed nearly half had no idea of how vital bees were to pollinate crops – and a fifth said summer would be better without bees.
Adopt-a-Hive founder Tony Gray said: “I am shocked by the number of children who have never seen a wild bee.”
