Stab suspect critical after 'killing family'
POLICE were waiting to quiz a man suspected of stabbing to death his girlfriend and their six-year-old son as he fought for his life under arrest in hospital last night.
The 34-year-old and his partner, 41, had only a fortnight earlier moved into a dormer bungalow in the quiet village of Bolton-le-Sands, near Lancaster.
But at 11.40am officers raced to the scene after a frantic call from the man's relatives who had spoken to him on the phone as he lay bleeding from self-inflicted stab wounds.
Police said they were confronted with a "distressing scene" as they entered the property and found the body of the mother downstairs.
Upstairs in his bedroom was the blood-soaked body of the boy.
Supermarket manager Peter Hannersley, 46, said: "This is a beautiful part of the world. You don't expect such tragedy here."
