Keep safe online: More than 4million Britons have been victims of identity fraud
MORE than four million Britons have been the victim of identity fraud, costing £1.3billion a year.
Now a browser application has been developed for mobiles phones, tablets and PCs to protect users from phishing attacks and online fraud.
We wanted to give people a simple way to browse the internet and do their banking and other transactions safely
It warns users if they are on a dangerous website and encrypts any data they input, preventing fraudsters from reading it.
The application is called Dublspk, a reference to the language Doublespeak in George Orwell’s novel 1984.
Robin Blake, part of the UK development team, said: “We wanted to give people a simple way to browse the internet and do their banking and other transactions safely.”
