Now ‘too busy’ Britons blow £110 a month on takeaways
THE average Briton forks out £110 a month on 12 takeaway meals, a study shows.
Too busy to cook, men get through 151 takeaways a year, while women manage 126.
A survey of 2,000 British adults looked into how age affects the number of takeaways we buy. The biggest consumers are in the 25 to 34 age group, who spend as much as £2,626 a year, or £219 a month, on takeaways.
Forty-nine per cent in this age group claim they rely on takeaways because they do not have the time or inclination to cook at home.
Those aged 45 and over spend an average £1,272 a year on takeaways.
Ben Hardings, 26, a sales assistant from Portsmouth, said: “After working a late shift it takes a lot of effort to prepare a meal when I get home.
“It is so much easier to pick up the phone and order an Indian meal or a kebab delivery – and they taste really good, too.”
The study by discount website vouchercodes.co.uk also found that fish and chips is no longer the most popular takeaway, having been overtaken by Chinese and Indian food.
