Armed gunman threatens police after walking down residential street with a pistol
AN armed man wielding a pistol walked down a residential street in Shropshire and threatened police twice on Easter Sunday.
Officers fired a shot at the man in his 50s, who smoked a cigraette as he held the weapon, which missed and a police dog was released to tackle him.
The man, who tried to enter a home in Stretton Road, is now in police custody and no one was harmed during the stand-off.
Speaking to the Shropshire Star, resident Jane Shepherd said: "I looked outside and I saw a man at the foot of my front garden holding a pistol and smoking a cigarette.
"He was as cool as a cucumber."
The mother-of-three said her eight-year-old son William was playing outside when police officers came screaming to the children to get inside.
A West Mercia Police spokesman said: "A shot was fired by an armed officer but no one was injured."
