More Post Office strikes planned over branch closures
POST Office workers plan fresh strikes in a dispute over branch closures, jobs and pay.
More than 2,000 members of the Communication Workers Union walked out on Saturday over plans to close or franchise 70, or a fifth, of larger high street branches.
The union’s Andy Furey said: “If there is no movement from the Post Office management we would expect further strike action.”

A Post Office spokesman said 100 of the larger branches, known as Crown offices, opened on Saturday.
He said the union was ignoring the “commercial realities” of the Crown offices losing £40million a year.
“We will be looking to partner with a suitable retailer, whilst at the same time we will invest £70million in the remaining 300 Crown branches,” he added.
