Schools go imperial in curriculum overhaul
CHILDREN will be required to learn miles, pints and ounces to encourage a more rigorous teaching of imperial measures.
An overhaul of the maths curriculum is expected to require schools to teach the older system because of its continued use.
Schools resorted to metric units as the prime system of measurement in 1974.
But new plans came to light in response to a Commons question by Tory MP Andrew Percy, who said: "We have got to make sure that kids know how to use both."
