Ecuador denies Julian Assange health fears
ECUADOR yesterday denied reports that fugitive Julian Assange needs urgent medical attention.
The WikiLeaks founder, who has been holed up at Ecuador’s London embassy since June, had been said to be suffering from a chronic lung condition. Ana Alban, the country’s UK ambassador, said on Wednesday that Australian Assange is in need of constant medical attention.
Assange refused to discuss his health during a press conference on Tuesday, saying that a resolution was a matter of diplomacy.
He took refuge at the embassy to avoid extradition to Sweden to face sex allegations.
Julian Assange does not have an urgent medical condition
His supporters fear he could be deported from Sweden to the US to face trial over handling leaks of secret information.
An Ecuadorian government spokesman said: “Julian Assange does not have an urgent medical condition.
“We continue to seek the assurances from the UK and Swedish government to enable him to live a normal life, free from the fear of extradition to the United States.”
