Tom Cruise shuts down Trafalgar Square
SHUTTING down one of Britain’s most iconic landmarks all in the name of art might well be deemed Mission Impossible for most people.
But it was all in a day’s work for Hollywood star Tom Cruise as he took over London’s Trafalgar Square to film his latest blockbuster.
Cruise, 50, made a dramatic entrance from an RAF helicopter, which hovered close to Nelson’s Column in one scene from the film,
All You Need Is Kill. In an echo of his Top Gun days, he wore an olive green uniform and aviator sunglasses as he marched through the streets early yesterday morning, appearing relaxed as he mingled with extras.
In the action-packed thriller Cruise plays a crime fighting hero called Lt Colonel Bill Cage, who is thrown into a “time loop”.
With British actress Emily Blunt as co-star, it is based on a Japanese science fiction novel and is due for release in March 2014.
Cruise, who has three children and an estimated £200million fortune, has had a turbulent year with his divorce
Cruise, 50, made a dramatic entrance from an RAF helicopter
from Katie Holmes this summer.
Heartbroken by the experience, he said he was “blindsided” after Holmes filed for divorce in June.
The couple married in a Scientology ceremony at an Italian castle.
Included on the star-studded guest list for the ceremony were David and Victoria Beckham.
Cruise has been living in Britain for several months, waiting for filming of All You Need Is Kill to get under way.
