Hero paperboy saves gran, 77, hurt in fall
A PAPERBOY saved the life of a stricken pensioner after he spotted her waving her walking stick at the window in a desperate appeal for help.
Jamie Lyons, 17, had just popped a paper through 77-year-old Janet Gregory’s door when he saw the stick at the living-room window.
He peered in to find her lying on the floor in agony after a fall. The quick-thinking student, of Prestbury, Glos, dialled 999 and then comforted her until paramedics arrived.
Mrs Gregory, a retired cleaner, said: “I don’t know what I would have done without Jamie – I could have been lying on the floor for days.
“I was in a great deal of pain. I tried to get up and it was so difficult. Jamie is such a lovely lad. I really want to thank him.” The teenage student found Mrs Gregory less than an hour after she took her tumble at home.
He said: “I had my headphones on and when I put the paper through, I saw the end of the walking stick knocking on the window.

“She was lying there and shouting to call an ambulance. I stayed to make sure nothing else happened. I was happy to do it. I was just offering a helping hand.”
Mrs Gregory’s daughter Sue Wollaston said: “Mum was very lucky to have Jamie around. He could have saved her life.
“He is quite a shy boy but always very courteous.”
Mrs Gregory escaped serious injury and is recovering.
