Though Prince William may be about to have more time on his hands
PRINCE Harry’s deployment to Afghanistan will put even more pressure on his elder brother to give up his military career, according to royal insiders.
With the prospect of Harry’s tour of duty leading to promotion, William faces being increasingly called upon to carry out public duties.
Speculation is mounting that the Duke of Cambridge will leave the RAF in the coming months to become a full-time working royal. An announcement is expected to be made before he and Kate move into their new apartment at Kensington Palace next year.
Princess Diana’s biographer, Andrew Morton, said: “If she were around, Diana would be saying that he should now take his rightful place at the boardroom of the Firm.”
She would point out that it “isn’t fair” for him to expect his wife, born a commoner, to undertake more royal duties than the future king. “He is now 30, when royals in all European houses are expected to pitch in.”
