Mosquito plague hits UK
BRITAIN is gripped by a mosquito plague caused by wet weather.
Stagnant water from flooding has created a perfect breeding ground for the insects.
Jon Ryan, of Godney, Somerset, is having to sleep under mosquito nets after he suffered 40 bites in one night.
He said: “When we travel abroad, we expect the occasional bite – but this is exceptional.”
Dr Derric Nimmo, of pest specialists biotech company Oxitec, said: “It very uncommon and it seems to be affecting the whole country.”
