Yvonne Fletcher: Police fly to Libya
SCOTLAND Yard detectives will fly to Libya in a breakthrough in the hunt for the killers of WPC Yvonne Fletcher, David Cameron said yesterday.
The Prime Minister called it a “really positive step forward”. It comes after a Downing Street meeting with Abdurrahim El-Keib, Libya’s interim premier following the fall of Colonel Gaddafi.
WPC Fletcher, 25, was shot dead by a gunman from inside the Libyan embassy in London in April 1984 while on duty during protests outside the building.
I think that is a really positive step forward and I know it will be welcomed by everyone in Britain
Mr Cameron told Mr El-Keib: “I am absolutely delighted that we are working so closely together on issues of mutual interest, including having a Metropolitan Police team going to Libya to continue the investigation into the murder of WPC Yvonne Fletcher.
“I think that is a really positive step forward and I know it will be welcomed by everyone in Britain.”
A Yard spokesman confirmed detectives had been granted visas to go to Libya.
