£9m Lotto lout stole cider and a sandwich
LOTTO lout Michael Carroll who won and lost a staggering £9.7million has walked free from court after stealing a sandwich and cider worth £11 from a supermarket.
Carroll, 28, who scooped the jackpot in 2002, told magistrates he was in a drink-fuelled haze and forgot
to pay.
He was spotted on CCTV but returned later with the money before police contacted him.
Father-of-two Carroll, of Downham Market, Norfolk, is now living on benefits after squandering his fortune on cocaine-fuelled parties, prostitutes and handouts to his hangers-on.
He admitted theft at West Norfolk Magistrates Court, was given a nine- month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £85 costs.
He said: “I just wasn’t thinking.”
Chairman Michael Gamble said: “You realise it was foolish to take things in the first place and you are to be commended for going back.”

Carroll collected his lottery win at the age of just 19 wearing an electronic tag fitted for an offence of being drunk
and disorderly.
He has appeared before the courts for dozens of acts of antisocial behaviour since his famous win.
He was forced to sell his mansion in 2010 for a whopping £600,000 less than what he originally paid for it after wrecking the place.
In August last year he twice attempted suicide.
