Helping hand from wonderfuel Sir Bruce Forsyth
SIR Bruce Forsyth has donated his £300 winter fuel payment to a charity which encourages people who don’t need their allowance to give it to the less fortunate.
The Strictly Come Dancing host, who will be 84 in February, is supporting the Surviving Winter campaign – dubbed the “fuel-anthropy” initiative – which aims to reduce the number of fuel poverty deaths. Last winter, 25,400 older people died, many having to choose between heating or eating.
This year, pensioners over 80 will receive £300, while those under 80 will get £200. The payments go to all pensioners, irrespective of wealth.
Sir Bruce said: “To think of people dying of cold because they can’t afford enough heating is really distressing.”
Sir Terry Wogan and Sir David Jason are also donating their winter fuel payments. Donations to the Surviving Winter campaign can be made through the Saga website or at www.communityfoundations.org.uk.
