Driving foam for Christmas
IT looks like this town is enjoying a white Christmas. But it’s not snow these drivers are up against, it’s foam from the sea.
A thick layer of oily bubbles carpeted the promenade at Anchorsholme, near Blackpool, as strong winds whipped up the tide into a freak blizzard.
Motorists made slow progress through the waves of white stuff, while walkers effectively endured a giant bubble bath.
The seaside resort has been hit by the foam phenomenon several times this year.
Resident Gordon Stanley said: “It is oil- based so it is terrible for your car and stains your clothes and windows.”
The Environment Agency said: “Early samples show no trace of detergent. So it could be decomposing algae churned by the tide and wind, causing foam.”
