Christmas is balmy
BRITAIN basked in one of the mildest Christmas Days on record yesterday – a dramatic contrast to last year’s big freeze.
Met Office spokesman Michael Lawrence said: “Temperatures meant hundreds of thousands were able to get outside and enjoy a pleasant walk with the family.”
Jane Harvey, 39, was one of many to take advantage of the temperature with a stroll along the beach at Bournemouth, Dorset.
She said: “It’s the perfect way to build up an appetite for Christmas dinner.”
One of UK’s warmest spots was Murlough in Northern Ireland which recorded 14C (57F) – a record for the region. In England temperatures hovered around 12C.
Warm air from the mid-Atlantic has resulted in a mild spell set to last several more days.
