Beatles letter for sale
A LETTER written by Paul McCartney in 1960 asking a drummer to audition for the Beatles will be sold in an auction of pop memorabilia today.
Dated four days after John, Paul, George and original member Stuart Sutcliffe agreed to perform as a five-piece in Hamburg, the response to a small ad is expected to fetch between £7,000 and £9,000 at Christie’s in London.
The other lots include a picture of the 1985 Live Aid concert taken by Jason Fraser, who was suspended 200ft above Wembley Stadium beneath a helicopter.
Fraser was the only photographer allowed to capture the event from the sky and the picture, signed by some of the performing artists, has a reserve price of £3,000-£5,000.
Also going under the hammer are a fedora worn by Michael Jackson on his 1984 Victory tour – which is expected to fetch between £1,500 and £2,000 – and a black suit worn by Sex Pistol Sid Vicious from 1978, which is estimated to fetch between £10,000 and £15,000.
