That’s it for us, no more babies says David Cameron
HOLIDAYMAKERS David and Samantha Cameron yesterday took their baby daughter Florence back to the hospital where she was born – and revealed they plan no more children.
Nearing the end of a family break in the West Country, the suntanned Prime Minister and his wife called in to meet staff who helped deliver Florence at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro a year ago.
The Prime Minister jokingly told children Nancy, seven, and Arthur, five, not to expect any further siblings.
“I’m afraid you are not going to have one of those,” he said, indicating a newborn baby. “That’s it for us, we are done.”
The couple had a fourth child, son Ivan, but tragically he died aged six in 2009 of cerebral palsy.
The Camerons met ward sister Kim Hewlett and Rob Jones, the consultant obstetrician who delivered Florence. She was born early at the hospital’s Princess Alexandra maternity unit.
Mrs Cameron said the early birth was no surprise. “Mine were all early and that’s why I think she was not too little,” she said. “She was ready to come out.”
That’s it for us, we are done.
The couple revealed that Florence slept at first in a makeshift cot prepared by Nancy. “Her sister made it for her out of a cardboard box and it was her cot for the first few days. She moved back to Downing Street in it,” Mr Cameron said. Mrs Cameron added: “It is still in her bedroom.”
The PM returned to London earlier this week to discuss the Libya crisis but the couple plan to continue their holiday for a few more days.
