New treat for teeth
A DENTIST has developed a new “super-toothpaste” which he claims keeps teeth free of plaque and stops decay and gum disease.
Dr Robert Gerlach has spent 15 years developing Oral B’s Pro-Expert paste, which is being promoted as the world’s best by its makers, Proctor & Gamble.
And clinical tests carried out by the firm and independently have produced impressive results. They showed brushing with the paste removed up to 96 per cent of surface stains in two weeks.
It also cut by over 50 per cent gum problems, tartar, and bad breath, as well as sensitivity. Dr Gerlach, chief dental research fellow at Procter & Gamble in Ohio, said: “Pro-Expert is the next chapter of toothpaste technology. It is unprecedented in what it does and it will improve oral hygiene in a short space of time.”
He said the key to the paste is in combining two ingredients, stannous fluoride, which stops bacteria breeding and plugs the microscopic holes that lead to sensitivity, and polyphosphate, which whitens teeth.
Most pastes use normal fluoride to toughen teeth but this is less effective in stopping bacteria breeding and in plugging the holes.
Pro-Expert paste will cost £3.50 for a 75ml tube, making it one of the more expensive on the market.
