Leaks at MoD ‘could lead to prosecutions’
DEFENCE Secretary Liam Fox yesterday predicted there would be prosecutions over the leaking of documents from his department.
He also declined to rule out the possibility that one of his Cabinet colleagues was involved – although there is no suggestion any of them faces court action.
A private letter he wrote last month, challenging plans to put overseas aid budget increases on a legal footing, was leaked. And last September his written warning to Mr Cameron against proposed defence cuts also emerged.
Critics of Dr Fox are said to suspect his side made the leaks – which he denies – since views expressed would be backed by many Tories.
Well, you never know...We are investigating and have a number of potential court cases
Asked if he blamed a fellow minister, Dr Fox told BBC1’s Andrew Marr Show: “Well, you never know...We are investigating and have a number of potential court cases.”
Meanwhile, International Development Minister Alan Duncan defended the aid budget.
“I don’t think that aid bashing actually gets us anywhere,” he said.
