Michael Stone loses appeal bid
HAMMER killer Michael Stone has been refused a fresh appeal over his convictions for the murders of Lin and Megan Russell.
He had pinned his hopes on forensic tests but the Criminal Cases Review Commission said the new material failed to justify another hearing.
Stone, 49, is serving three life sentences for killing Dr Russell, her six-year-old daughter and the attempted murder of Megan’s sister Josie, then nine.
He ambushed them as they walked along a lane in Chillenden, Kent, in July, 1996.
Stone, who is serving a 25-year minimum term, was found guilty in 1998.
The convictions were quashed in 2001, and a retrial was ordered.
Stone was again convicted in 2001, and the three life sentences were re-imposed.
