Uber launching 'game-changing' new service in 7 UK cities – it could save you money
The expansion of the service will help reduce congestion and emissions in UK urban areas as well as being more affordable.
Uber has launched a share ride service in towns and cities across the country. UberX Share allows riders to share their journey for savings of up to 20% off their total fare when matched with a co-rider along the way.
The service allows for a more sustainable choice and is Uber's most affordable option yet. It is set to expand across the UK this month after a successful pilot scheme was launched in Bristol.
"UberX Share is a game-changer for affordable, sustainable travel in the UK,” said Andrew Brem, General Manager of Uber UK.
He added: “This service not only helps riders save money, but also reduces the number of vehicles on the road, cutting emissions and helping ease congestion in our towns and cities."
The successful launch in Bristol, in November 2024, saw a strong uptake from riders, particularly among nighttime social travellers.
Evening Uber passengers accounted for 35% of all trips and commuters and made up 25% of bookings.

UberX Share works by allowing for more affordability while also allowing for riders to stay on schedule by only matching riders heading in the same direction, meaning less unexpected delays.
Share X will be rolled out in seven UK cities which including London, Bristol, Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, Nottingham and Sheffield. It will also launch in Merseyside and the North East.
