'Worst Euros screening ever' as fans charged £30 to watch final on 'unwatchable' screens

England fans who paid up £30 to watch the Euros final in a London nightclub branded the experience "arguably the worst showing of the game ever", after the venue put on the historic match on "barely visible" screens.

Egg London Nightclub near King's Cross in London promised those who bought tickets an "incredible fanzone atmosphere" for the Three Lions' showpiece clash with Spain.

However, hundreds of punters were forced to stream the game on their phones or cram into hot, dark rooms to watch it being projected via BBC iPlayer. An Express.co.uk reporter watched as a woman had to be escorted out of the largest of the venue's rooms after fainting due to the heat.

Those wishing to quench their thirst were charged £6.50 for 330ml cans of lager, while one visitor claimed they forked out "£7.50 for a water down shot". Organisers were accused of "pure greed".

On an Eventbrite page selling tickets for the showing, fans were promised "massive HD screens" where they could "watch every moment in stunning clarity" so that they wouldn't "miss a second of the action."

However, upon arriving on the nightclub's rooftop terrace, it became clear to patrons that Egg's screens were LED not HD. To make matters worse, the images being shown via BBC iPlayer were significantly zoomed in, meaning much of the broadcast shot was cut off.

The description for the event also boasted "surround sound", "live DJ sets" and "food and drink specials".

A separate promotion said the venue would show the game on "huge LED screens" sharing pictures of two outdoor displays. However, the promotional pictures showed the screens without any images being displayed, so prospective visitors were unable to see that the match would be shown in shockingly low resolution.

The venue was added on Friday afternoon, just over 48 hours before the match kicked off after many of the capital's other screening events were already sold out.

After England's heartbreaking 2-1 defeat in Berlin, more than 60 enraged fans left scathing reviews of Egg's hosting of the event.

Maria Josefina Rivera said of the venue: "The screens were a joke! I can't believe they charged £20 and say they were screening the Euros final with that kind of screens. Never coming back to Egg, total scam".

Andrew Heather told a similar story, complaining: "The TV screens didn't show the entire screen meaning most people watched the game (slightly delayed on their phones ). Screen were LED and too pixelated."

Holly Hallawell said: "Absolute rip-off, £20 for a screening of the euros final, screens so s**te and pixelated they hurt your eyes, the screens were zoomed in and kept freezing, so low down you could only see the whole thing if you were at the front or 6"5 tall. Couldn't even see england's only goal. Absolute joke".

George Doel fumed: "An absolute scam. Outrageous to charge £30 a ticket, and £6.50 for a 330ml can of corona. None of the screens worked - someone had set up a web cam filming a laptop for one of the projectors.

"Couldn't see the whole screen and ended up watching the game in a dark room - rather than all the photos of a light and airy outside space. Left after 20 minutes and even the staff at the event were embarrassed and offered to get in touch with the club for a refund. Will NEVER be returning and will be in touch to sort a refund of my ticket."

Egg London Nightclub has been approached for comment.
