Tommy Robinson arrested in Canada for 'immigration offences' and 'can't leave Calgary'
Tommy Robinson claimed Canadian authorities had seized his passport and he is being kept from leaving Calgary.
Tommy Robinson 'arrested' in Calgary
Tommy Robinson has been arrested on suspicion of committing immigration offences while on a three-city tour of Canada.
Footage has emerged online showing Robinson, born Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, being handcuffed by plainclothes officers.
In the clip, the two officers can be heard explaining he is the subject of "an outstanding immigration warrant" before he's led away.
Robinson had just delivered a speech in Calgary when he was arrested. He has since been released but said on social media he is unable to leave the city.
Following his release, he shared an update on his status on social media: "Ok I’m FREE, well, sort of.
"None of this makes sense, I’m now detained in Calgary, prevented from leaving the city, these conditions stop me from continuing my tour of Canada and meeting with guests for podcasts. I’m not even allowed to leave to travel home."
The English Defence League (EDL) founder had previously pleaded guilty to using a friend's passport to travel to the US in 2012 and was handed a 10-month prison sentence.
Robinson jetted off to Canada to attend a podcast talk with the outlet Rebel News.
Following the Calgary event, he was scheduled for two more podcast appearances in Toronto and Edmonton.
He was due to discuss "freedom of speech" and discuss his issues with the British police over the years.

Ezra Levant, from Rebel News, raged at the arrest, writing on X: "Tommy Robinson had just given a major speech to about 150 Calgarians about freedom of speech, lawfare and his battles in the UK.
"No sooner had he finished that speech and walked outside than he was swarmed by 10 police officers who put him in the back of one of three police vehicles and drove him off.
"We asked what the charge was, but the police refused to say.”
Robinson, formerly a member of the British National Party (BNP), co-founded the EDL in 2009 and has remained a prominent figure of the British far-right.
He served four prison terms between 2005 and 2019. He unsuccessfully ran for the 2019 European Parliament election.
