Tributes have been paid after a nine-year-old schoolboy was found dead in the woods in a Scottish village.

Jordan Moore has been described as a "loving, caring, happy, handsome wee boy" by his devastated family.

He was found in a wooded area in Lesmahagow, Lanarkshire on Sunday, June 2.

Emergency services rushed to the scene near Abbeygreen Road at 6.50pm after receiving reports of concern for a child.

However, the youngster was tragically pronounced dead at the scene, reports GlasgowLive.

Police Scotland confirmed there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death following a post-mortem examination.

His family has released the following statement: “Our Jordan was the most loving, caring, happy, handsome wee boy. He’ll forever be in all our hearts.”

Detective Inspector Vicki Douglas said: “Our thoughts are with Jordan’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.

“His family are being supported by officers and have requested that their privacy is respected at this time."

Debbie MacKenna, headteacher of Woodpark Primary School in Lesmahagow, paid heartfelt tribute to Jordan calling him an 'energetic, fun-loving pupil'.

She said: "We are all deeply shocked and saddened by the tragic death of Jordan, who was a valued member of our school community.

"Jordan was an energetic, fun-loving boy who was loyal to his friends and family, and was loved by us all.

"His radiant smile, his singing and dancing and his sense of humour lit up our school.

We keep Jordan's family and friends very much in our thoughts and prayers, and we will continue to support our school community at this very sad time.".
