Police officer injured after being 'intentionally' hit by a car in 'significant incident'
The officer needed hospital treatment afterwards, with police issuing an appeal for witnesses.
A police officer needed hospital treatment for injuries sustained when he was “intentionally” hit by a car after challenging the driver of the vehicle in relation to an incident.
At around 11.30pm last night, an officer was on mobile patrol in a marked police car in Conscience Lane in Wiltshire, driving from Rowde towards Devizes when he noticed a vehicle parked in a field.
Stopping his vehicle, the officer tried to speak to the occupants.
At this point the driver, refusing to respond, drove away, purposely colliding with the officer as they did so.
As a result, the officer sustained injuries. Further to hospital treatment has been discharged and will now continue his recovery at home.
Duty Superintendent Conway Duncan said: “This is a significant incident where an officer undertaking their duties has intentionally been injured by the driver of the vehicle.
“We are providing ongoing welfare support to the officer and their family. Our thoughts are with him and we wish him a speedy recovery.
"We are currently undertaking extensive urgent inquiries to identify the person responsible for this incident and we would encourage anyone with information to come forward."
