With the name Gibraltar many people think of the British Overseas Territory that is a buzzing holiday destination where you can enjoy sunny weather, beautiful beaches, among familiar British comforts.
Many Gibraltarians speak Spanish and English as well as a local dialect known as Llanito. Here you will also find their ‘national animal’ the Barbary Macaque otherwise known as the Gibraltar Monkey.
However there is acually a tiny hamlet in Buckinghamshire with the exact same name. A million miles different to its namesake.

Instead of sandy beaches, tapas bars, monkeys and sun, Buckinghamshire’s Gibraltar hamlet is a quaint and quiet place with just one pub.
Unlikely to be visited as a holiday destination the UK version of Gibraltar is located by the main A-road that links the busy and popular Aylesbury with Thame.
With the A418 running through the hamlet, Gibraltar features some beautiful countryside and is home to just a handful of houses, many of which are stunning cottages with thatched roofs and timeless beauty.

The quaint hamlet does not have its own train station making Aylesbury the closest railway.
Benefitting from being on the outskirts of a great location Gibraltar is just a short 15 minute drive from Aylesbury town, home to the Roald Dahl Children's Gallery and the Waterside Theatre. Here you will also find shops, restaurants and businesses.
With the only common element they seem to share is their name, it is safe to say that this Buckinghamshire hamlet is worlds apart from the overseas destination. However, for those who love thatched-roof cottages, and some peace and quiet, this version of Gibraltar could indeed be your dream destination.
