British Airways flight declares 'emergency' as it lands at Heathrow airport
Flight BA38 has transmitted a code 7700, indicating an emergency as it approaches Heathrow.
A British Airways flight has declared an emergency as it made its approach to Heathrow Airport.
According to Flight Radar, flight BA38 from Beijing declared a general emergency as it came in to land at the busy London airport.
It has now been reported that the plane has now landed safely following its 12-hour flight, touching down just before 4pm.
As it came down it was thought to have transmitted a code 7700 to the Heathrow control tower meaning an emergency of any kind is ongoing.
The code allows ground crew to know that the plane is struggling with a serious issue and to prepare to assist it upon landing.
Experts have suggested that one of the Boeing 787-8's engine's had to be shut down by its pilot during the incident, of which the exact nature is currently unknown.
British Airways and Heathrow Airport have been contacted for comment.
