The pretty little UK town tourists love but locals aren't so convinced
The little town is a regional food capital and hosts lots of food festivals, but some locals think it's severely lacking in other departments.
A gorgeous UK town has proved to be incredibly popular among its many loyal visitors - but people are being urged to rethink after locals slammed the town they live in.
The Leicestershire town is famous for its culinary offerings with its strong links to cheese and pork pies, and it plays host to many food festivals.
Visitors are also drawn in by Melton’s beautiful old buildings, and the town was recently added to the famous Muddy Stilletto’s website as a place with lots to do, according to Leicestershire Live.
Nevertheless, this love for the area was not shared too much by those who actually live there, with one saying: “I don’t think it’s got a lot to offer - only the pork pies”.

Aptly named Mel Skelton lives in Melton, and the 74-year-old added that “even the Cattle Market is going downhill and the town centre market is too”.
After pondering whether that reflects “the world we live in now”, she even slammed the shops, saying they are “far worse than they used to be” and mourning the loss of Shoe Zone, which “has been standing empty for a while now”.
46-year-old Nicki Barnard diagnosed Melton with a “typical high street death”, adding she “only comes into town I have to”.
She does, however, praise the restaurants, as well as the odd festival, like the recent ChocFest which took place inside the Cattle Market.

Nevertheless, Nicki is glum overall - “I really expected Melton to be nicer”. To add to her misery, she doesn’t even like pork pies.
Even youngsters aren’t keen - 19-year-old Connor Lounds lambasted his hometown, saying: “I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone, not at all”. Summing up his thoughts succinctly, he concluded: “everything’s gone to crap”.
With a population of around 30,000, the town - often known as Melton Mowbray - is situated just down the road from Leicester and has a number of other attractions, like its lovely Regal Cinema and Stapleford Miniature Railway.
The average house price in the area is £259,000, slightly less than the national average of £291,000.
