'Large police presence' as man is arrested after emergency worker assaulted
Witnesses reported a large police presence in the area this afternoon.
A man has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker in Rochdale. Police arrived at the scene after receiving reports of anti-social behaviour in the town centre yesterday afternoon (May 23).
Officers were called to Rochdale Interchange on Smith Street around 4pm. There was a large police presence at the scene, according to witnesses. Police have confirmed a man was arrested at the scene.

He was detained not only on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker but also public order offences, Manchester Evening News reports.
A Great Manchester Police spokesman said: "At around 4pm today (Tuesday 23 May 2023) officers were called to reports of anti-social behaviour at Rochdale interchange on Smith Street.
"One man has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker and public order offences.
“Enquiries are ongoing at this stage."
