Post-Brexit: visas to welcome the globe's best graduates
GRADUATES of the world's top universities will be eligible for visas under a post-Brexit drive to attract the "brightest and best".
Priti Patel pushes the idea that graduates from the top universities will eligible for visas
Under previous rules they would have needed a sponsor, job offer, meet salary levels and show they were not denying a Briton work. Now recent graduates from the top 50 non-UK universities will qualify under the scheme.
They will need to pass English and criminality tests, pay a £715 fee and have at least £1,270 in funds.
The visas will be for two years, including for families.
PhD holders can stay for three.
They can then switch to other long-term visas.
It is part of the post-Brexit pointsbased regime after ending the EU freedom of movement regime.
Home Secretary Priti Patel called it a push to "put ability and talent first, not where someone comes from".
