Parliament lockdown: Police scramble as man tries to 'drive through main gate'
A MAN has been detained by police after he attempted to drive into the Houses of Parliament.
Police said a man tried to enter the Palace of Westminster via Carriage Gates at around midday. They added that he was detained and then sectioned under the Mental Health Act.
Pictures show a man in grey tracksuits, a jumper and trainers next to a blue vehicle as officers handcuff him.
There were no injuries or damage to property.
The incident is not being treated as terror-related.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: "At around midday on Tuesday, 14 December, a vehicle attempted to enter Carriage Gates, Palace of Westminster.
"A male inside the vehicle was detained before being sectioned under the Mental Health Act."
"There was no damage to property and no injuries were sustained.
"This is not being treated as a terrorist incident."
