Scanners at 'all UK airports'
PASSENGERS will have to pass through body scanners at all UK airports, Gordon Brown will promise today.
Britain will move quickly to improve airport security after the "wake-up call” of the failed Christmas Day terror attack by a Nigerian Islamic fanatic on a flight to Detroit.
The Prime Minister has ordered a review of the systems used to identify potential terrorists, which will report within days.
On the Downing Street website he said the use of full-body scanners – which will cause delays – would be discussed with the US.
He warned that Britain needed to “remain vigilant” over the radicalisation of its young Muslims.
Ministers have been accused of acting too slowly to introduce the scanners, which produce “naked” images of passengers, although they are being tried out at Manchester Airport.
Failed bomber Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab foiled existing airport security to board a flight in Amsterdam carrying
hidden explosives.
The Dutch say they will install scanners at the city’s Schiphol Airport.
