Lidl offers film rentals
DISCOUNT supermarket chain Lidl is expanding beyond low-cost groceries to break new ground with online film rentals.
As British families struggle to cope with the recession, the retailer has enjoyed rising in-store sales as growing numbers visit discount stores for their everyday essentials.
The company’s new DVD rental website called LidlMovies.co.uk aims to undercut similar rival services and will offer a choice of 65,000 films.
Marco Ivone, spokesman for the chain, said: “People already value Lidl for its quality food at rock-bottom prices.
“The DVD rental service is offering the same proposition on a different platform.”
He said the chain’s latest venture would offer “first-class service at the lowest price from the convenience of your home.
