London news: Lockdown by London's St Paul's Cathedral after police swoop 'avoid area'
POLICE sealed off a street in the City of London, with people urged to avoid the area on Wednesday afternoon.
The City of London Police shut a road in the capital on Wednesday with a “cordon in place”. Officers closed the street while they investigated a “suspicious vehicle”. The vehicle in question was parked near One New Change - a major shopping centre not far from St Paul's Cathedral.
City of London Police took to Twitter to update Londoners on the developing situation on Wednesday afternoon.
At just after 1.20pm, they wrote on Twitter: "A cordon is being put in place while officers investigate a suspicious vehicle parked near One New Change in the City.
"Nearby roads will be affected and some buildings.
“Please avoid the area if you can. Updates to follow."
Around 20 minutes later the City of London Police gave an update.
They insisted that the vehicle they were investigating was “no longer a threat”.
They wrote: “The vehicle has been checked and is no longer a threat.
“Roads will be re-opening shortly. Thank you for your patience.”
The incident took place near One New Change - around a three minute walk from St Paul's Cathedral.
