London fire: Huge blaze engulfs block of flats in Bethnal Green - 80 firefighters on scene
AT LEAST three people have been rescued as 80 firefighters tackle a huge blaze at a block of flats in Bethnal Green, in London, that caught fire in the early hours of this morning

London Fire said there are 10 fire engines and around 80 firefighters battling the blaze at a block of flats in Hadleigh Close, in east London, this morning. Firefighters rushed to the scene at 3.28am. They tweeted: "Ten fire engines & around 80 firefighters are tackling a fire in the roof of a block of flats on Hadleigh Close in #BethnalGreen."
Two people were rescued by an extension ladder from the fourth floor.
Another fourth floor resident was rescued through the internal staircase.
No injuries have been reported after more than 100 residents evacuated from the building.
The cause of the fire is said to be under investigation.
Station Commander Paul Morgan, who was at the scene, said: "Brigade Control took twenty-five 999 calls to the visible blaze.
"One of those callers was trapped inside the property and unable to escape due to fire, heat and smoke.
"They were given vital fire survival guidance information before fire crews arrived.
"Two women were rescued from a fourth floor flat through a 13.5 metre ladder.

"A man and a woman were also rescued by firefighters via an internal staircase.
"The man was taken to hospital as a precaution by London Ambulance Service crews.
"Two adults and a child left the flat where the fire is believed to have started before firefighters arrived. Over 100 residents self evacuated from the property."
Dramatic footage on social media showed thick smoke billowing into the night sky.

A huge orange glow could also be seen for miles.
People also shared their horror at seeing the huge blaze in the middle of the night.
One person said they could smell the smoke despite not living in the area.
They wrote on Twitter: "Fire in Bethnal Green apparently. Smell woke me up a couple of miles away."

Another person added: "Finally stopped blazing but roof is still burning a bit Fire in Hadleigh house, Bethnal Green."
A third said: "Fire at a block of flats near us in Bethnal Green. Scary stuff."
In its latest statement, London Fire Brigade said the fire was now under control.
Firefighters from Bethnal Green, Whitechapel, Shadwell, Shoreditch, Dowgate, Homerton, Soho, Islington and Stratford stations were all called to deal with the blaze.
