Armed police rush to the scene in Croydon as road closed amid incident
ARMED POLICE have descended on Thornton Heath, south London, in response to an incident this afternoon.
West Hendon: Police respond to incident in Barnet
Several police cars rushed to the scene, with at least six police cars in attendance. They were responding to an ongoing investigation. Officers closed the High Street while they responded to the incident, stopping cars from travelling down Whitehorse Road to Woodville Road from 1.45pm.
People took to Twitter to discuss the incident.
One person wrote: "There was bare armed police with guns in Thornton Heath today! Around six police cars!"
One person said they thought they saw police checking inside someone's car.
The police said in a statement: "Just before 1pm on Sunday, 10 May armed officers stopped a car on High Street, Thornton Heath in relation to an ongoing investigation.
"Following the stop a 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary and motor vehicle offences.
"He is currently in custody in a South London police station."
