A FRUSTRATED paramedic admitted Britons are still spitting at NHS emergency staff during the unprecedented coronavirus health crisis.

NHS paramedic Martin Berry told Sky News' Mark Austin that staff are still facing abuse and violence from the public during the coronavirus crisis. Mr Berry, of Paramedics UK, pleaded with the public to work with the NHS as he insisted the workers are facing an unprecedented amount of demand due to the health issue. He said: "It is, unfortunately, true and it is awful that we are having this conversation."

"We are having to report that this sort of violence, both verbally and physically is continuing.
"Yes the public is afraid about what is going on and we want to reassure them that we are doing everything that we can to protect them.
"However, this sort of anger and response is totally unacceptable.
"These people are putting their own lives at risk to try and care for people.

"The message that I would put out to the public is please work with us."
Social media users took to Twitter to voice their anger and disgust at those committing these actions.
An annoyed Twitter user wrote: "Sickening. Are these instances being reported to the police?"
Another simply questioned: "What is wrong with people?"

Some Twitter users insisted those caught should face severe penalties and reflected on the current state of the UK during the crisis.
An outraged Twitter user tweeted: "Disgusting this society in which we dwell.
"My grandad fought in a war for freedoms we have today, despicable."
Another added: "Let's be 1000% clear if you do this to a paramedic you're an absolute c***.
"Who would do that, really?"

England's chief nursing officer Ruth May has also called on the public to treat all NHS staff with respect during the coronavirus pandemic.
She said: "I am shocked at some of the stories I am hearing of NHS staff being assaulted, spat at or attacked for their ID badges.
"So I am calling on the public to respect and listen to NHS staff, because you may be needing them very soon.
"Please stay at home, wash your hands and save lives."
