London fire: Blaze on 13th floor of Hackney tower - two hurt as 45 firefighters scrambled
TWO men are being treated for smoke inhalation after a blaze broke out at a block of flats in Hackney this afternoon.
London: Fire breaks out at high-rise building on Jodrell Road
Up to six fire engines were called to Jordell Road, in Hackney, East London, at 2.24pm this afternoon. Around 45 firefighters are still tackling the fire, which is still burning. The fire broke out on the 13th floor.
But it is not yet known what caused the fire.
Video footage shows fire crews attending the fire.
A witness travelling past the tower block captured the fire on their phone and posted the video on social media.
Fire engines were seen parked outside the building, with their lights flashing.
Firefighters were also pictured walking towards the building to help control the blaze.
There have been no reports of casualties at this time.
It comes after firefighters also tackled a huge blaze not too far away in Hoe Street, Walthamstow earlier this month.
Drinkers at a nearby pub Ye Olde Rose and Crown pub and business owners were evacuated after a car workshop set alight on February 2.
One Twitter user wrote: "It looks like it’s the local mechanic's garage in Walthamstow that’s gone up fingers crossed no one is hurt."
Another person said: "I hope that London Fire are able to contain this so we don't lose an iconic pub."
At 8.20pm, the LFB tweeted that the fire had been brought under control and there had been no reports of injuries.
In December, 40 firefighters rushed to tackle a blaze at an unoccupied primary school.
Dozens of firefighters took on the blaze in Haggerston.
The blaze occurred at Market Nursey in Wilde Close.
The cause of the fire was not established at the time.
Witness Andy Commons told the Hackney Gazette: "I saw a fair bit of smoke and literally nine units responded, maybe five fire engines and a command unit."
The blaze was controlled by 1.3opm after firefighters were called at 11.50am.
Crews from Shoreditch, Homerton, Islington and Stoke Newington attended to the fire.
