New Year: New Zealand welcome in 2020 with fireworks
It’s time to pop the bubbly as the New Year is just around the corner. At midnight tonight, the UK will enter a new decade as 2020 begins.
To celebrate, often revellers head to parties, spend time with loved ones or watch the fireworks.
The biggest display in the UK is in London when thousands of explosions light up the sky come midnight.
This event is organised by the Mayor of London and to attend you need to have bought tickets as it is now sold out.
It takes place along Southbank, with fireworks launched over the River Thames.

But if you want to dodge the crowds and find somewhere with a good vantage point in London to see the fireworks, where do you go?

And if you're worried about travelling home afterwards, TFL is offering free travel on their public transport from 11.45pm on New Year's Eve until 4.30am New Year's Day, with most services running through the night.

Where to watch New Year’s Eve fireworks in London
Primrose Hill
Nearest tube: Camden or Chalk Farm - but Chalk Farm will close by 8pm
One of the best places to see panoramic views of London is Primrose Hill, which sits at 76 metres high.
As well as offering stunning views of the capital’s landmarks, Primrose Hill is a perfect vantage point to view London’s firework display.
Nearby there are pubs galore, however, it may get busy so leaving early to secure a spot may be a good idea.

Hilly Fields
Nearest tube: Ladywell and Crofton Park station
In Brockley you can find Hilly Fields, standing 175 feet above sea-level and offering good views of the fireworks.
Again like Primrose Hill, there is no shortage of pubs and bars around Crofton Park station.
This is a perfect location for a drink in the warm before the fireworks begin.
Hampstead Heath and Parliament Hill
Nearest tube: Hampstead, Gospel Oak and Belsize Park
Not only does Parliament Hill offer a good view of the fireworks, but often revellers bring their own on New Year’s Eve.
Nearby Hampstead Heath also offers stunning views of the city and the fireworks.
It’s worth wrapping up warm and perhaps bringing your own drinks.
London Bridges
While Waterloo Bridge will be closed to pedestrians from 4.30pm and all traffic from 7pm - there are others you can choose to stand on or by to get a good look at the fireworks.
Southwark Bridge and Millennium Bridge offer a view of the action, however, it is likely to be very busy come midnight.
Further away but with a little more room are Lambeth Bridge and Vauxhall Bridge.
Again, wrap up warm if you’re heading out as there may be a chill by the river.
Alexandra Palace
Nearest tube: Alexandra Palace
The iconic Alexandra Palace sits on top of a hill with a steep incline, perfect if you’re starting your January fitness plan early.
From the top of Ally Pally’s hill, you can see the glittering city skyline and it is a popular location for both New Year and Bonfire Night fireworks.
Watch the sky light up come midnight and relax…before heading back down the hill afterwards.
