A HUGE fire has erupted in Kettering - with police warning people to stay away from the town centre and ordering road closures.
Kettering fire: Huge black smoke clouds engulf the sky
Kettering Bedding Centre is said to be the site of the blaze with flames seen coming out of windows on all three floors of the building. Eyewitnesses say smoke is visible across the town. Residents are being told to keep doors and windows shut and a series of roads have been closed off. Police have closed Regent Street, Wellington Street, Havelock Street and Rockingham Road at the junction with Nelson Street.
One resident told the Northants Telegraph the smoke was "really black".
They added: "All of a sudden there were flames out the front.
"Glass went everywhere."
Northants Fire urged Twitter users to share a warning detailing the road closures.
They wrote: “We are currently dealing with a fire at a business in Regent Street, Kettering.
“Residents in the local area are asked to keep their doors and windows shut to keep the smoke out while we deal with this.
“We are also advising motorists to avoid the area.”
Emma-Louise Hope wrote on Facebook: “Mattress place has gone up. Can see it from my garden.”
The fire was put out at around 3pm but roads remain closed.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
