Madeleine McCann: How Kate identified ‘KEY piece of jigsaw’ to solve case
MADELEINE MCCANN’s mother Kate claimed during her book that someone possesses the “key part of the jigsaw” to help find her missing daughter.
Madeleine McCann: Parents outline ‘best scenario’
Madeleine McCann mysteriously disappeared on the evening of May 3, 2007, while her parents ate dinner with friends at a Tapas restaurant just metres away. The youngster vanished from Apartment 5A of the Ocean Beach complex in Praia da Luz, Portugal. Over the last 12 years, investigators have worked tirelessly to find out what happened, with no luck to date.
Kate and Gerry McCann have always supported the theory that Madeleine was snatched by a local criminal.
This idea was popularised after it was claimed several other apartments in the holiday complex had been robbed in the weeks leading up to Madeleine’s disappearance.
Kate explained during her book “Madeleine: Our Daughter's Disappearance and the Continuing Search for Her” why she thought someone may know something that could help police.
She said: “We are hopeful that this book may help the investigation in other ways.
Somebody holds that key piece of the jigsaw.
“Perhaps it might prompt someone who has relevant information – maybe without knowing it – to come forward and share it.
“Somebody holds that key piece of the jigsaw.
“Indirectly, it may boost out search simply by enlightening those who, for whatever reason, believe Madeleine is no longer alive, or that there is nothing else that can be done to find her.”
Kate went on to explain how she hoped this information would help put to bed any rumours that have surfaced over the years.
She added: “We trust it will put to rest some of the myths that have sprung up around her abduction.
“As will become clear in the book, while we still do not know what happened to Madeleine, there remains no evidence whatsoever to suggest that she was killed.”
Despite Kate and Gerry’s desperation to find the truth about what happened to Madeleine, the pair have not engaged in all media requests.
In March, controversial Netflix series “The Disappearance of Madeleine McCann” was released in a bid to learn more about the 12-year case.
However, Kate and Gerry do not see how it will help bring their daughter home.
A statement on behalf of the couple argues that the show could actually hinder police investigations.
It reads: "We did not see – and still do not see – how this programme will help the search for Madeleine and, particularly given there is an active police investigation, it could potentially hinder it.
"Consequently, our views and preferences are not reflected in the programme.
"We will not be making any further statements or giving interviews regarding this programme."
